Office 365 Government plans

Office 365 Government plans are designed for the unique needs of government organizations. They provide all the features and capabilities of Office 365 services in a segmented government cloud community that enables organizations to meet U.S. compliance and security standards.

Office 365 Government plans are available to (1) qualified government entities, including US federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government entities, and (2) other entities (subject to validation of eligibility) who handle data subject to government regulations and requirements, where use of Office 365 Government is appropriate to meet these regulations and requirements. Each plan is offered as a monthly subscription and can be licensed to an unlimited number of users. Start the free trial to begin the special compliance validation process required for eligibility.   1. Publisher and Access: Windows PC client program and/or features only; cannot be used across devices. Most plans that do not include the desktop version of Office work with the latest version of Office, Office 2013, and Office 2011 for Mac. Previous versions of Office, such as Office 2010 and Office 2007, may work with Office 365 with reduced functionality. This compatibility with Office does not include the Exchange Online Kiosk or Office 365 F1 plans.
  2.  Unlimited personal cloud storage for qualifying plans for subscriptions of five or more users, otherwise 1 TB/user. Microsoft will initially provide 1 TB/user of OneDrive for Business storage, which admins can increase to 5 TB/user. Request additional storage by contacting Microsoft support. Storage up to 25 TB/user is provisioned in OneDrive for Business. Beyond 25 TB, storage is provisioned as 25 TB SharePoint team sites to individual users.
  3.  For subscriptions that do not include the fully installed Office applications: Users can connect the following versions of Outlook to their business-class email, so they can use the rich client application they already know: the latest version of Outlook, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2011 for Mac. Previous versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2007, may work with Office 365 with reduced functionality. This compatibility with Outlook does not include the Exchange Online Kiosk or Office 365 F1 plans.
  4.  The Skype for Business app included with Office 365 U.S. Government G1 does not include PSTN capabilities available in the version included with Office 365 U.S. Government G3 and G5. Skype for Business is not yet available for Mac. Lync for Mac 2011 is the latest version. Lync for Mac is compatible with Skype for Business Server and Skype for Business Online.

Eligibility requirements

Office 365 Government plans are available to (1) qualified government entities, including US federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government entities, and (2) other entities (subject to validation of eligibility) who handle data subject to government regulations and requirements, where use of Office 365 Government is appropriate to meet these regulations and requirements. Each plan is offered as a monthly subscription and can be licensed to an unlimited number of users.

A government organization is typically (a) any government agency, department office, division, unit, or other entity of state or local government or (b) any county, borough, commonwealth, city, municipality, town, township, special purpose district, or similar type of government instrumentality established by laws of customer’s state and located in the customer’s state jurisdiction and geographic boundaries or (c) any other entity in the customer’s state expressly authorized by the laws of the customer’s state to purchase under state contracts.

Microsoft reserves the right to verify eligibility at any time and suspend the service for ineligible customers.
